Gestational diabetes is higher than normal glucose (sugar) levels that develops during pregnancy and usually resolves after birth. It can affect up to 30% of pregnancies (depending on various factors) and is now thought to complicate more than 20 million births worldwide, every year. Research evidence supports the treatment of this condition to reduce pregnancy complications, and adopting appropriate lifestyle changes reduces the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes later in life. The gold standard diagnostic test is the Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) but there is a lack of international consensus on the thresholds that indicate if a particular glucose test level is normal or not. However, it is also clear that regardless of the testing policy used, treatment of gestational diabetes reduces complications for mothers and babies.
The specific goal of the featured glukoGest app is to educate, empower, and inspire women to take charge of their health, by making informed choices about the possibility of gestational diabetes in their current pregnancy. We encourage you to explore and take advantage of the benefits of the latest version of this app.
